INTRODUCTION BY S. BENJAMIN, M.D.

Dr. Lo’s traumatology text is a vital and highly needed contribution to the medical literature on injuries. In Western Medicine, we are becoming increasingly aware of the Chinese Medicine to our therapeutic armamentarium. Our Western focus on disease needs to take into account the multi-factoral causation of illness, the use of more natural modalities, and the wisdom of the Chinese in focusing on the whole, which in humans is greater than the sum of its parts.

Dr. Lo has presented the material in a readable, understandable and interesting format. Our increasing fascination in the west with health, fitness and exercise, has brought about increased well-being, and along with that benefit, greater exposure to physical trauma. The flexible and holistic approach of such practitioners and teacher as Dr. Lo can enhance our skills and empathy for the injured person and will serve to expand our personal gratification as healers.

The open-minded reader of his book has much to gain in synthesizing the centuries of Chinese tradition and medicine and some of the technical gains we in Western Medicine have added. I hope the readers of this book can gain as much from Dr. Lo’s experience as I have in working with Dr. Lo over the years.
